I must first mention that it is with a great deal of excitement that I am commencing my college writing career in a blog. Secondly, I have always been fond of catchy titles, so the one that I have chosen may seem quite unappealing. However, instead of trying to "wow" readers with a flashy title, I have decided to take a new approach to both my writing and my life: making an impact with content and depth rather than first impressions and on-the-surface observation. As a high school student, the main goal was getting decent grades to get into a good school. Typing up your papers and doing a little extra credit here and there made that a simple task. Now, as I am entering UC Davis, pursuing my education, I realize that it is not all about the grades.
I have made a decision to take on a new outlook on education. This is a time in my life where I need to personalize my education and make deeper connections with texts that I read and concepts that I come into contact with. I have decided to make a conscious effort to look past what people wear or do or the groups they are associated with and, instead, dig much deeper than their outer appearance. I do realize that there will be “ups and downs,” but I intend to make the best of any situation that I come across. This is Chapter One. It is the part where I am just starting college, finding out who I really am, enjoying independence, social involvement, community involvement, and experiencing life from a new perspective.
This is my new beginning.
